I am one of the very few scouring some of the dungeons for action... solo, or 2, or rarely 3. Bunch of lame-o-s on this shard bank sit (you big collector, you) and/or running around in large groups... or get ready in 3, 2, 1... 1 of the 10+ events of the day!

The glory days of UO are well behind. If you aren't in the dungeons you were never a part of those days. You are part of the problem of this shard and what made this game badass.
Some of you need to grow a set and play the game for what it was or find ways to be creative.

Yea, I guess you could be right. In other words, if collecting dumb meaningless $hit all day is your cup of tea, maybe I need to move on and find a new game to play.
Maybe put a few k towards Shroud of the Avatar kick start for something real rare and make some real scratch.

Normally find your responses to be sensible, but this is just....well wrong. I didn't join Hybrid for housing/rares, I joined for the fun of playing UO, runnning for my pixelated life from a red, sneaking around stabbing innocent people with poisoned newbie daggers, GM tinker trapping boxes and leaving them around the world, mining, crafting, farming....houses and rares are just a cool bonus, but that was definitely not what made me say "HOLY SHIT!!! Theres a free UO Server, I HAVE to try this out". Not trying to make a dick response, like I said, normally respect your posts, but this time (and maybe I stand alone here) I disagree.

Also you are right about just about everything there and ive shared all of those feelings and memories plus more I'm sure as all of us have that came from osi or even just starting out here I suppose but.. What I was more so getting at was.. you can skip the below ramblings and read the last sentence lol I got a Lil caught up...
ALL of these things, BIG and tiny little things weather its the pvp, crafting,MURDER?!, getting killed and looted, economic stuff? (Trading and what not) or having a rare item in your custom built house you placed yourself on the land as your own little piece of the world to the feeling you getting your hands,heart and sometimes nutsack
when a red is on your ass and you have something well worth saving in your back pack [e cough! (expensive trammy loot?!) or you just don't want to die today lol..If you took a few or Really any of these little things away... Would it be uo? Would people have bothered to keep at it instead of jumping to lure of the much prettier looking (at the time lol) everquest? I was All about pvp when I got hooked on uo.. It's all we did lol but I always remember the guys who were like gods to me and had epic loot and castles and shit and I wanted that lol..
No other game offered housing or rare items like uo did.. Historical stuff in that world.. Idk for me I wanted to play other new games but my first questions were always.. Does ithave open world pvp? Housing? Full loot? Ect. No game has done it to the extent uo has all in all and I was basically rushing the fact in what I said LOL ok enough ramble (good job if u made it this far.. I wouldn't have)
I will say I agree hybrid definitely wouldn't survive on that shit alone but hybrid its self might not be here in the first place without it lol

Maybe I'm wrong to attempt to distill your reason for playing down to a singular one, but would I be incorrect in assuming that this was the thing that kept you coming back?
If so my point would be that a shard this old is simply experiencing the natural death any server that old would. New blood comes and discovers the same motivation for playing. Upon realizing there are other shards about to go live and realizing those gods of yours are out of reach on Hybrid, new blood joins IPY instead of Hybrid because it gives him that opportunity.
Were everyone to play for that reason, every shard would die eventually- it's just that this one we're talking about would be on it's deathbed already.
All new players coming to Hybrid are beholden to the people who've been here. Sure a new player can farm up enough to get castle, but he would be farming for an eternity trying to fill it with enough handout loot to catch the gods of this shard. In fact, these noobs might have one hope. Joining a zerg guild that spends hours doing nothing but running through housing areas looking at idocs, only to sit at said idoc maybe collect some loot then repeat ad infinitum. And IDOCS really only happen on shards that are sick to begin with. A healthy shard isn't constantly turning over 90% of it's playerbase. It's economy isn't based on broad swaths of the population up and leaving.
Even if noob manages the impossible and becomes a God himself, he did it by playing the most lamer version of UO possible. The IDOC zerg way.
New guy may well be a noob, but he isn't an idiot and has access to Google.
Then the only question left is what does all that godly loot matter on a shard nobody is going to be coming to play? Is the loot worth anything when the only person looking at it is you and a handful of people who have their own? When you got it by looting the house of a person who obviously didn't value it enough to log on once in two weeks, click their house sign and log out?
Does it matter when 15 years ago people managed to do this while also having to slowbuild their characters on shards with populations 20x that Hybrid boasts at it's most active and without the benefit of getting stuff for doing nothing but logging in at the right time and also under the very real possibility that were they to make one mistake with their key they'd lose it all?
I know the answers, of course.
The answer is this shard is going to die without a revert and you'll either be stuck on Hybrid alone for the most part coveting your hoard or you'll go play UO again. The only way that happens here is with a revert.
Hybrid was dead when Rev went live, because the vast majority of players prefer a new shard to an old one. I don't know how it weathered it; but it did, although obviously worse for the wear. I don't know why Rev died, either. Had all the makings of another fun round of UO. I took a break for 6 weeks and when I came back I was one of two people online.
I still haven't heard an explanation. I was still able to log into Rev. WTF happened? Iknow for a fact that no other good video game was released.
SMH. Back to Hybrid I guess.
This shard has only survived for being the only real show in town. In a month, 2 , 3 it won't be.
Clock is ticking.
It will die without some painful changes happening. I promise you that.
Not trying to knock everyone affiliated with running this shard. You were all part of the longest running free shard- you could pull the plug right now and Hybrid would always be that. You've had to cover it's faults with bandaids to preserve the most vocal of your playerbase but if you put any more bandaids on this thing it'll be a mummy covered head to toe in band aids. I really do mean it when I say many of you did a respectable job. But some of your colleagues didn't do anything to help your efforts with their favoritism and cheating over the years- only making the work you did preserving it that much more admirable.
But if you don't at least try to compete with IPY3, this shard is going to get guardwhacked.
