Marathon event

I would like to organize an in game Marathon event, but need some ideas to make the event fun, fair and rewardable.

Below are some drafts -
Route: From Britain Bank to Vesper Bank
Checkpoints: There will be a few random check points on route to prevent cheating (food provided)
Entrance: Newbie Chars only, no entrance fee
Date: on a Sunday
Rules: No Mount, PK allowed, dead players are allowed to continue but must be live at the finishing line
Prize: 5m - 50m depends on number of entrance
