This seems to be the simple fact based on the ping thread, and based on this one so far. If they did in fact have every intention of this change being for the better, unfortunately it just hasn't worked out that way as of yet.

I've seen and done plenty of traceroute's from IPv4 hosts, and there's sometimes a pattern.
"telX-Y.bbr01.eq01.[whatever]" where X is a number and where Y is a number -- that's where many people complaining have the nastiest jumps in lag. Others, however, see consistent spikes further up the line, from WDC routers. I'd really like to see someone produce a trace from a "true" ipv6 client that shows spikes and/or increased latency similar to what our IPv4 traces show. Note: just installing the protocol doesn't mean you're using IPv6.

Not sure what the discrepancy is.

This has nothing to do with us, this is 100% your connection that you cant do a traceroute. Your router, your pc firewall... whatever it is, it's not us.

Just as an FYI -

We've moved to a much better network and ICMP is deprioritized which could result in wild swings in ping time. I would suggest not trusting ping.

That all said, I'm going to chat with Mark today and talk to him about a couple of things we can provide to our network provider to get them to weigh in on the situation.

We've never left you hanging and we've never lied. If this server continues to fucking suck we'll move it to another datacenter.

I haven't had too many issues like that. It's actually been as stable as I've seen it for me. I used to have trouble in the past when the server was located in Texas, and for a while in Ohio I think. It makes me think that the problem is generally in a provider along the way toward the server, and each time they move the server new people are going to experience what others have been putting up with before. Not sure though.

I had a problem with lag a long time ago on Atlantic. I called my cable modem ISP and asked to speak to Network admin. I got an email instead of a phone #... so I emailed him. I told him that my DSL connection was alot faster when I had ATT DSL. I traced my route, gave it to him, and asked why I was routed through some oddball city... I just asked him if he could try making a custom route in his route table. He wrote back and said he did... Then everyone on Atlantic accused me of speed hacking....

Worth a try, and all depends on the Administrator and how cool they are.

I just got a new internet connection. 8 bonded T1s. It's a pretty fast (~12mbit) business level connection backed by a throughput and uptime SLA. My pings are still shit. Notice how fast my ping times are until I hit softlayer's network. Same as Link's results but more pronounced. I also get big spikes up to 900ms and it's always starting at softlayer's network. Softlayer's network is oversubscribed.
