Re: Film Thread

Howl's Moving Castle is one of my favourite anime movies, hence the username Howl!!! Spirited Away is amoung my favourites, as well.

My other favourite anime movies are:

Princess Mononoke
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkWWWKKA8jY

Grave of the Fireflies
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-JCe_C-3o0

Ghost in the Shell
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Z1dzzHOqrY

^ THIS IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE!!! It's not only a classic of its genre but ground-breaking in the philosophy of computerization and artificial intelligence and life. It's actually harrowing and you have to remember every single fucking frame was drawn by hand.

Like the Wind, Like the Clouds
(Couldn't find a trailer)

Only Yesterday

Paprika
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqg3Sw3s9Wg

^ IF YOU LIKE ENDLESS SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND AND THE SCIENCE OF SLEEP AND HAVE ANY INTEREST IN THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE MIND AND PSYCHOLOGY YOU WILL REALLY ADORE THIS!!

Millenium Actress

High Fidelity is fucking awesome, I watched it again just two days ago.

Sci Fi Hollywood I guess...

Ghost in the Shell covers similar ground, under the guise of 'Ghost hacking' - computerization has gone as far as external computerized memories linked directly to one's brain, that leave hackers with the potential to infiltrate a person's memory and alter it for their own benefit, i.e. inventing a false memory syndrome so a single guy had a whole lifetime's memories of a wife and daughter he has never had.

Sit down one day and watch Princess Mononoke, Ghost in the Shell, Spirited Away and Millenium Actress and I promise that all of your misconceptions will be blown away.

You misunderstood my comment. I'm a die hard Anime fan..I've just been trying to get away from it with the exception of Cowboy Bebop/Neon Genesis.

Sounds mint. I like science fiction, but mostly just reading the books as many sci fi movies are pretty shithouse and boring.

Oooooh! Excellent! I'm just too used to people assuming that all anime is like Dragonbollocks-Z.

Cowboy Bebop is fucking awesome. I forgot to mention it, for some reason?! The film is the best, but the 23 episode series is pretty damn good as well.

You would not find Ghost in the Shell boring.

Though I do recommend not going any further than the first sequel... and perhaps not even that far...

I did used to watch Naruto a few years ago, but I find the plot-lines and characters to be a bit too childish and the plot to drag out waaaaaaaaaaaay too much for each episode. They probably could have compressed the content of each episode to half the length.
