Re: The Educated Fool

The refrence to respect Lennox is interesting. Lennox was more or less a spy in Macbeth's castle who gravitated towards power and became the third murderer. He changed sides against Macbeth when the shift of power leaned that way.

There isn't much to respect about Lennox....

Hrm...be awsome to find a 'red' over in Fel nammed Thane the Lennox :D

Re: The Educated Fool

Yes, I am curious about Maya's reply "we must respect Master Lennox". I am wondering if she is referring to William, Myrius, or some other character we have yet to meet.

Also who is the educated fool? Myrius has the title 'The Educated' which leads me to believe he will be in the fool as the event unfolds.

EDIT: Since it has been so long since I read Macbeth, I had to look it up on the net. Something I found that was interesting was a description of Macbeth, "the play tells of the dangers of the the lust for power and the betrayal of friends." Myrius the Educated says that William is his 'dearest friend'. Perhaps Myrius is the fool who lusts for power and has betrayed William which is why he is now insane?

Hrm very likely Myrius would be the fool...I'll have to try a few different key words tonight with all the players and see if I get a hit :p

Re: The Educated Fool

I fear poor William may be in danger of being murdered!

"It will be rain tonight." is what Banquo says right before the three murderers sent by Macbeth attack and slay him. Could Myrius have sent assassins after William?

So on the top floor of the research facility is a Alchemy Desk and a table with research notes. Now I can't get anyone in the facility to mention the notes but i fear that perhaps it used for making some sort of poison that has affected williams mind. That, or maybe some research into a cure. Evil or good intentions...so hard to tell.

Re: The Educated Fool

In the research facility I took the hireable Bard to be a sign that
perhaps others were right, that we are looking for some clues from
those righteous minstrels: Iron Maiden

Now the song Educated Fool first appears on the Album "Virtual XI" with
held several 'futuristic' themes thoroughout. Therefore we can safely
assume that Lord Blackthorn and his mechanized world will play a pivital role.

Furthermore we have the lyrics to consider, lets break them down verse
by verse

==============================================
I'm an educated fool
So I don't know what it is I'm supposed to do
About this awkward situation
That's been forced down right upon me
==============================================

Ok so ovbioulsy Myrius, whome we know to be educated, is likely the fool.
He finds himself in a position that is not one he would like to be in.
It appears his hand is being forced by higher powers and he is questioning
his actions.

==============================================
As I'm walking down into
on my own into the valley of life
Got a lifetime of experience
yeah I've got so much to give
==============================================

This verse appears to be general lamenting over Myrius's own plight.
Its possible that he realizes he will likley be killed over this whole
thing and is affraid that there are knowledges that he has yet to
inpart.
==============================================

Open the page at chapter one
could this just be that life's just begun
Forever within your darker thoughts
Reflecting on everything you've been taught
==============================================

Here's where it gets interesting. Now possibly Myrius is making an
external refrence to chapter 1 of MacBeth. Or perhaps that book
of poetry holds some clue as to his actions. There is also the
journal the William is carrying (ALTHOUGH I spent 4 long days walking
every mountain range in Trammel (Shame, Brit, Ice, The desert, Minoc,
Hyloth, Hidden evil mage tower, Destart, North and south peaks, Deciet
and ice Isle....AND NEVER found Willaim :( )

There is also the last line about reflection again indicating that
the higher powers forcing Myrius are causing some internal conflict
against his own education.

==============================================
Never felt this way before
Seems that somebody's just opened the door
To the book of life .... or is it death!
there's ever anyway out
==============================================

Ah HA, finally some insight! The mysterious book of life (or death)
could likley be the key motivation behind Myrius's intentions.
Picture if you will, you are Myrius and you are milling about your
research facility, a team of students at your beckon call. When all
of a sudden a mysterious black moongate appears out of nowhere.
With your sense of amazing curiosity and general scholarness, you
prepair yourself and walk through. In a eriely lit setting your
focus is narrowed to a pedastel with a omnious ancient tome laying
before you. The scripture documents everything that has been,
currently is, and even will be. Seeing your own fame and glory
that you knew was due to you, the path was clearly layed out before
you.

The systematic breakdown and destruction of the one man in your way,
William.

Forgetting all pretense of Who, What and Why, you forget all the
circumstances of you comming across the book and are now blindsided
by your own desires. Setting out to corupt William, drive him insane
and remove the one man that stands in your way you carefully plot
his downfall.

With beckoning students hanging on your every whim, it was easy to
convince the community of Williams lack of mental capacity. Aided
by the dark arts of Alchemy (Not unlike Mondain the Wizard), you
draught a potion that slowly corupts the mind.

While the details of this coruption and scheme could have gone down
any number of ways, the end result brings us to the present: William
has been driven insane, sense has flooded back to Myrius who now has
a deep conflict as he knows what he as now done, and there is still
a dark and looming force yet unaccounted for.

==============================================
Someone's looking down on me
to the very inner core of my soul
They won't tell me what they see
But I really want to know
==============================================

Alas, now Myrius can be labeled the Fool proper. The forces that
gifted him a glimpse of the book hold the key to this puzzle for sure.
These dark masters (Legacy of Mondain, shadowlords.... lolth...) are
easily and masterfully controling Myrius. He knows this as well.
He wants to know what they see in him. Possibly despite the internal
conflict over his actions still clinging to the visions given him from
the book. Like a lost school boy, not a scholar, he begs for the answer
without any sacrifice on his part. True knowledge can only be gained
thorugh sacrifice, work, and scholarly deductions. He should have
known better... ..but could you or I ignore the gloy spelled out before
us in a mythic tome? Would be jump at the chance of eternal fame
if all we had to do was follow the path clearly laid out before us?
All of you count yourself lucky that we are but players in the grand
scheme of things, that we can look upon poor Myrius's plight without
having seen the desire ourselves.

==============================================
I want to live my life on my own
I want to lift the unturned stone
I want to walk right into the fire
I want to live out all my desires
==============================================

Again we continue the decent of Myrius. Begging within his mind to
the devious forces that control him...he longs for the pureness he
once held. His path use to be set: Study, knowledge, a facility of
his own, a team of students to pass his learnings on too.... Now all
taken.

He wants his life back, to undo what he has done.
He wants to continue his scholarly persuits.
He wants to end it all, to die and be done with it.
He wants to complete the path he saw from the tome...glory.

As you can see...internal conflict at its worst.

==============================================
I want to go and see the fire burn
I want to see and feel my world turn
I want to know what more there's to learn
I want to pass the point of no return
==============================================

An interesting verse to say the least. The conflict in Myrius's
mind now swings to lust of the vision he was granted. Damn the world
and let it burn, take all the knowledge that was promised him in the
book. Comit fully to that path and not look back!

==============================================
Do you really wanna be
Just another one statistic or feel

That you really should aspire
That you really do deserve more

Do you ever really feal
That you have so much potential inside
What you really have to give
Could be realized so much more
==============================================

Huzzah! A clue! These are likely the very words that play in Myrius's
mind. These words are likley directly from the forces that play him
like a puppet to thier tune and will!

As Myrius's approaches the ancient tome, whispers of reason enter his
mind, suggesting what he already knew to be true. He does aspire to
more, he does deserve more, his potential needs to be realized!
With suggestion such as that, then to see the path clearly laid before
him in simple text, as it will be, it is clear that he might be lost
for good. Poor Myrius, the fool.

==============================================
Time will flow
And I will follow
Time will go
But I will follow
Time will flow
And I will follow
Time will go
But I will follow
==============================================

A simple verse but one that points to the 'educated' side of Myrius.
A true scholar knows that there are a few universal truths in the world
or the next, that time does flow, and we all will follow.

==============================================
I want to feel what life's like respond
I want to meet my father beyond
I want to walk right into the light
I want to feel no fear but delight

I want to live my life on my own
I want to lift the unturned stone
I want to walk right into the fire
I want to live out all my desires

Time will flow
And I will follow
Time will go
But I will follow
Time will flow
And I will follow

Time will go
But I will follow
Time will flow
And I will follow
Time will go
But I will follow

The educated fool
================================================

The last bars are played out by the Minstrels and a final bit of
knowledge can be gleamed from its hymes. Myrius is doomed, and a fool.
There is only desire left raging in his mind and he is unable to control
it any further. He has already begun the destruction of William as he
is now branded insane. The inchoherent babbling he spewes is ever more
evidence of foul play from some dark Alchemy. Some dastardly brew
has stolen quite a bit from William, but there might be hope.
Just as Myrius longs for the light, salvation... we must find it for William.
We must focus all out efforts into either:

A cure for his condition
A Means to halt its progression
Or at the least, the knowledge that he carries with him

...I believe that William knows who is largely at hand behind the evil forces
controlling Myrius....Why else would they direct Myrius so? Why would william have to fall for Myrius's glory?
He wouldn't. William posed a threat to these dark being and in his Insane condition, he is of no real concern.

Should we be able to restore William to his formor capacites...or at
least find and decifer the knowledge scatter throughout his journal notes..
we might better understand who is pulling the strings, who is controlling
the show...and before the final curtain is called, bring an end to
whatever deeper plot stews.

-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
FINAL MUSING AND THOUGHTS
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+

If we continue with the premise that 'the future' is a possible theme to consider then in a very possible likelyhood...
the minions of Lord Blackthorn could have construction some machine that opened a gateway to these sinister beings.
Maybe the dark lord himself has gazed upon the book and seen the path to his own glory?

Who better than those mechanzied maniacs to find a means to open an extraplaner portal that houses darker evil than exists here.
Our mages have long discovered the ability to recall and open gates in the fabric of our lands.
With that power applied to the new science of mecha it could be possible to twist the mana to open a gate to some other destination....

Re: The Educated Fool

Since the quest npc's do not seem to be forthcoming with any new information I figure the information provided so far must be clues leading us to somewhere or someone. With that in mind, LC's initial post about William wandering mountain sides and Myrius saying that he would leave on short journeys, I decided to search the mountains in the Vesper/Minoc/Cove regions.

I traveled by land only and covered the Cresent Mountains, the Mountains of Avarice, and Mt. Kendall. I also took the passage to the Lost Lands in the Cresent Mountains and looked around there.

The only thing I found which could possibly be related was in the Mountains of Averice. In the first level of Covetous I came across a little alter with a candle upon it. I do not know if this has always been there or not, but since William says "She has light beside her continually. Tis her command." I thought it could possibly be related.

Anyone know if this is new or if it has always been there?

He is in Cove. He has been moving around a little bit, but is usually to the north of the bank and west of the docks.

I ran through all the towns early on and didn't find anything other than William and the Vesper Research Center, but that was before we knew it related to Shakespeare. If someone doesn't beat me to it, I'll check all the theaters tomorrow.

EDIT: I checked all the theaters and found nothing new.

EDIT 2: I searched the Peaks of Disgrace, Dragonhame Mountain, Hidden Valley, North Peak and South Peak. The only thing I found which seemed out of place is what I believe to be the entrance to Blighted Grove south of Shame. Probably normal but thought I would mention it anyway.

This leaves Prison Peak, Ice Mountain, Frozen Mountains, Solitary Mountain, Codex Mountain, the mountains near New Haven and the mountain entrance to Humility. I'll search them tomorrow.
