Demise Harvest Festival

Demise Harvest Festival
Sunday, November 18th
- in celebration of our autumn holidays and the harvest season -

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Events starting prior to November 18th:

Autumn House Design/Deco Contest
Begin accepting submissions on November 10th. To enter your house, place a rune to the house and a book in a bag. The book should contain the players name as well as a forum nameIn a bag: place a rune to the house in question and a book with the owners game and forum names. Once you have the bag ready, page a staff member (After the 10th but before the 17th). The staff member will take your bag and get it placed with the other entries. Judging will occur on the 17th by staff members. The winners will be announced at the closing ceremonies of the festival. Runes will be on display for all to day during the day of the festival so people can see the houses that were entered.

What should you be decorating? Your house should be set up with an autumn theme. That's all we ask. Autumn'ish. It's all about decor and presentation.

Story Contest
Similar to the house design contest, players are asked to write the story inside a writable book and submit it with another book that contains the character name and forum name of the player. Page a staff member and he or she will take the bag and place your entry with the others. The story must fit inside one or two UO writable books (no more than two!). You do not have to seal the book as this will be done for you. The story should be a role play type story relating the the autumn season. All stories will be judged on November 17th, placed on display during the festival, and winners announced at the closing ceremonies.

Re: Demise Harvest Festival

Sounds like fun! This will be the first major event I attend and I look forward to the maze. Do all events have prizes of some kind or is this just a "relax and have fun" kinda thing.

Either way I'm pumped :D

Pretty much any single-instance staff-run event has prizes. The only exceptions that I recall were things like the day-plus-long public champion spawns, which provided nothing more than the champion spawn normally did, but gave everyone easy access to the spawn and healing.

Re: Demise Harvest Festival

ok that means we owe lc like 48000 gold since she has to baby sit on all the ceaters
of the pvp events and that was on the going rate of 8 gold and hour for the average of 400 players

i would hate to see how much we would owe here if i converted this to uo hours and day

Too bad i'm up to my nose in university related stuff and no internet still, but i'm sure there will be enough other people around to give crimson and her minions a headache for the duration of the event(s).

Demise Harvest Festival
Sunday, November 18th
- in celebration of our autumn holidays and the harvest season -

---------------------------------------------------------------
The following documenation is an explanation of events to be held during the 2007 Harvest Festival. These events are still considered tentative and can change.

---------------------------------------------------------------
All Day Events (Random)

Mage Poker
Any mage that can cast summon will be able to participate in this event. The premise of the game is that the host will present the participating mages with a "poker hand" of summons that can be cast. The first mage to summon and prove to the host that he or she has cast the correct hand will win.

Let's Make a Deal
This game mimics that famous television game show "let's make a deal." The host will request to see a very specific item and the first individual who can place that item in a trade window with the host will be given the chance to decide on keeping or trading the initial prize given for the requested item. A fun way to relax and clean out your bank box.

Skiras Shrine Quest
Demise staff has placed a gate at the fairgrounds leading to the starting gate of the Skiras Shrine Quest. No further description shall be given in order to preserve the mystery and surprise of this quest.

---------------------------------------------------------------
Scheduled Events

Races
A tricky course awaits those who wish to race at the Demise Fairgrounds. Not only is an individual expected to stay ahead of the others, he or she must compete against the track. Different types of races will be held all expecting the racers to complete one round of the race track. These types will include races for those on foot, equine mounts, beetles only, ethereal mounts only, and of course, Anything Goes. Remember, slow and steady wins the race!

Poetry Contest
There is more to this event than being a creative poet. Those who wish to participate will be given a list of words that must appear in the poem. Participants will be given a short amount of time to create a harvest themed poem with the provided words. Each will also be asked to perform his or her poem on the fairground stage. Afterwards, a winner will be chosen and all poems will go on display at the fairgrounds for the duration of the event.

Scavenger Hunt
This event will be ran using the scavenger hunt system currently in place on Demise. Items will be available to all who sign up to find. The event will end after all items have been found or at the beginning of the next event, depending upon which comes first. Payout for this event is based on who finds the most items (3 placements) as well as how many items each person finds, even if not in the top three.

"Luck of the Draw" PvM Contest
The lands of Sosaria are constantly asking the fighters of the lands to compete in arena duals to best the other, but what of those who find enjoyment in besting the creatures that roam our lands? This event is based on luck and skill as the competitor will roll the dice to determine the type of creature he will fight, and again to determine whether that beast will be paragon or not. Once determined, the competitor will enter the arena and face the creature in which he rolled. The individual who wins will be the one who faces all of his creatures and remains standing.

Rules: There are no "re-do's" as far as rolling the dice. Summons and Pets are not allowed. You may not be mounted. If all participants in the last round die, each get to roll and fight again. If three are in the final round and the first two die, this does not buy the final fighter a win - he or she must fight to claim the title.

Maze House
For this event, your mind will be challenged as you try to find your way through a very large, multi-leveled, maze filled with both puzzles and treasure. Only those who carefully make their way through the trap filled halls will be lucky enough to find their way to the end of the maze. You will be challenged along your way by rooms that will contain a puzzle. These can range anywhere from simple walking puzzles, up to more mentally involved puzzles that will make use of a range of topics. Clues will be given on signs throughout the maze and it is suggested that you read them very carefully before making your choices. For those of you that have been in the maze before, you now have another chance to tackle the maze and the puzzles within. Good luck, you will need it.

Net Toss
This is simply what the title states: a net toss. Players will have an opportunity to head out to the high seas and chance fighting the creatures of the deep. There are no prizes for this event; however, looting is free to all.

Pet Tournament
If you think you have the best pet combo around, bring your pets to the pet tournie. You may not switch your pet combinations out in the middle of the event and healing is not permitted. This is truly a time to let your pets shine and take home the gold... literally.

Closing Ceremony
Starting immediately after the pet tournie, the winners of both the story and house contests will be announced.

edited: allowing the story contest writers two UO writable books rather than just one. This will give the writer 40 pages.
