PROVOCATION

"Let chaos be your ally, discord your weapon"

Skill Overview

Provocation is the art of turning monsters against each other through musical manipulation. A skilled provocateur can make deadly enemies fight amongst themselves while staying safely out of harm's way. This bardic skill is incredibly powerful for solo hunting, resource farming, and controlling dangerous spawns. With GM skill, even ancient dragons can be provoked to fight.

Training Path

Prerequisites

REQUIRED: 100.0 Musicianship before starting provocation training.

⚠️ Without GM Musicianship, provocation training will be extremely slow and frustrating!

0-50: Weak Monsters

Start with easy targets:

  • • Sheep vs Sheep (Jhelom)
  • • Mongbats vs Mongbats
  • • Rats vs Rats
  • • Any two identical weak creatures

50-75: Intermediate Monsters

Progress to stronger enemies:

  • • Orcs vs Orcs
  • • Skeletons vs Skeletons
  • • Zombies vs Zombies
  • • Lizardmen vs Lizardmen

75-90: Advanced Training

Face challenging monsters:

  • • Ogres vs Ogres
  • • Ettins vs Ettins
  • • Dread Spiders vs Dread Spiders
  • • Earth Elementals vs Earth Elementals

90-100: Master Level

The final push to GM:

  • • Dragons vs Dragons
  • • Ancient Wyrms vs Ancient Wyrms
  • • Balrons vs Balrons
  • • Any high-level identical monsters

💡 Pro Tip: Identical monsters are easier to provoke against each other!

Provocation Mechanics

Success Formula

Success Rate = (Musicianship + Provocation + 50) / 2 - Monster Difficulty

Both skills at GM (100) provides the best chance against any monster.

Monster Difficulty Factors

  • Easy: Animals, weak undead, low-level monsters
  • Moderate: Mid-level monsters, some dungeon spawn
  • Hard: High-level monsters, champions, paragons
  • Very Hard: Ancient wyrms, balrons, high-end spawns

Combat Duration

Provoked monsters fight until one dies or approximately 30 seconds pass. Timer resets each time you re-provoke them. Distance affects success rate.

Practical Applications

  • Solo Hunting: Make dangerous spawns fight each other
  • Resource Farming: Control mining/lumber spawns safely
  • Dungeon Clearing: Let monsters clear paths for you
  • Champion Spawns: Reduce overall spawn numbers
  • PK Defense: Provoke monsters onto player killers
  • Training Assistance: Weaken monsters for skill training

Advanced Techniques

Chain Provocation

Keep multiple groups of monsters fighting simultaneously. Re-provoke pairs before the 30-second timer expires to maintain continuous combat.

Strategic Positioning

Stand at maximum range when provoking dangerous monsters. Use walls and obstacles to break line of sight if provocation fails.

Selective Targeting

Provoke the strongest monster against the weakest to maximize damage dealt while preserving the stronger creature for future provocation attempts.
