STEALING

"What's yours is mine, what's mine is my own"

Skill Overview

Stealing is the art of taking items from other players and NPCs without their knowledge. This criminal skill allows you to pickpocket gold, reagents, weapons, and other valuable items. Thieves can operate in towns (risking guard justice) or prey upon adventurers in the wilderness. A skilled thief is invisible, silent, and gone before victims realize their loss.

Training Path

0-30: NPC Training

Buy from Thief NPCs in the Thieves' Guild or find trainers in towns. Essential start.

30-50: NPC Practice

Train on NPCs safely:

  • • Target NPCs in town (guards will attack if caught)
  • • Practice on packhorse owners
  • • Steal from vendors (they restock)
  • • Use snooping first to see what's available

⚠️ Warning: Failing steals from NPCs will flag you criminal!

50-80: Player Training

Practice on other players:

  • • Work with a friend or guild mate
  • • Have them carry cheap items to steal
  • • Practice in safe areas first
  • • Learn to hide immediately after stealing

80-100: Advanced Training

Master level techniques:

  • • Attempt harder steals (heavier items)
  • • Practice in dangerous locations
  • • Perfect your escape techniques
  • • Train steal timing with hiding/stealth

💡 Pro Tip: Always carry hiding and stealth skills - essential for any thief!

Stealing Mechanics

Weight Limits

Skill Level Max Weight Examples

30-60 3-7 stones Scrolls, potions, jewelry
60-90 7-12 stones Weapons, armor pieces

Success Factors

  • • Skill level vs item weight
  • • Distance from target (closer is better)

Advanced Techniques

Steal and Hide

Immediately use Hiding after a successful steal. This breaks line of sight and prevents retaliation. Practice the timing until it becomes second nature.

Snooping First

Always use Snooping to examine a target's belongings before stealing. This lets you choose the most valuable items and plan your approach.

Escape Routes

Know your escape routes before committing to theft. Have recall scrolls, gate spells, or safe hiding spots planned. Never steal without an exit strategy.
