Skill Overview

Tactics is the fundamental combat skill that determines your effectiveness in melee warfare. Without tactics, even the mightiest warrior swings with the force of a child. Master tacticians can double their weapon damage, making this skill absolutely essential for any melee fighter. In the pre-AOS era, tactics is the cornerstone of all physical combat templates.

Damage Mechanics

Damage Bonus

How It Works:

Tactics provides a damage bonus to all melee attacks

Tactics directly modifies your base weapon damage as a percentage.

  • Below 50: Damage penalty applied
  • At 50: Normal damage (100%)
  • Above 50: Damage bonus applied
  • Passive: No activation required

Damage Scaling

Skill Progression:

  • 0 Tactics: 50% damage (half)
  • 25 Tactics: 75% damage
  • 50 Tactics: 100% damage
  • 75 Tactics: 125% damage
  • 90 Tactics: 140% damage
  • 100 Tactics: 150% damage

  • • Linear scaling (1% per point)
  • • 50 is the baseline (no bonus)
  • • GM tactics = 50% more damage
  • • Works with ALL melee weapons
  • • Applies before other bonuses
  • • Essential for PvP and PvE

Training Mechanics

  • Passive Gains: Skills up during any melee combat
  • No Stats Required: 0.0 scaling on all stats
  • Universal: Works with all weapon types
  • Automatic: No manual activation needed

Damage Bonus Stacking

In pre-AOS, tactics combines with other damage bonuses multiplicatively:

Other Bonuses:

  • Strength: +30% at 100 STR
  • Anatomy: +20% at 100 skill
  • Lumber: +30% at 100 (axes)
  • Quality: +20% exceptional

Max Example:

100 Tactics + 100 STR + 100 Anatomy:

150% × 150% = 225% total damage!

Training Path

0-30: Starting Out

Buy from NPCs or start with warrior template

Any melee combat will train tactics

30-50: Basic Combat

Fight weak monsters or training dummies

Damage penalty makes this slower

50-75: Normal Training

Combat becomes easier with no damage penalty

Fight appropriate level monsters

75-100: Advanced Combat

Fight stronger monsters for better gains

Your damage bonus makes this efficient

PvP & PvE Applications

Player vs Player

Critical Importance:

  • • 50% damage difference at GM
  • • Essential for burst damage
  • • Required for viable melee
  • • No tactics = easy target

Minimum Viable:

  • • 90.0 for competitive PvP
  • • 100.0 strongly recommended
  • • Below 50 is unplayable

Player vs Environment

Farming Benefits:

  • • Faster monster kills
  • • Less resource consumption
  • • Higher tier content access
  • • Better gold per hour

Boss Fighting:

  • • Required for champion spawns
  • • Essential for dragons/demons
  • • Maximizes damage output

Special Considerations

Key Mechanics

  • • No power scrolls needed (100.0 cap)
  • • No special moves requiring tactics
  • • Simple percentage scaling system
  • • Works identically for all weapon types
  • • No hit chance modification

Template Priority

Tactics should be one of your first maxed skills for any melee template:

  • • Dexxer: 100.0 Tactics mandatory
  • • Tank Mage: 90.0+ recommended
  • • Archer: 100.0 for maximum damage
  • • Pure Mage: Not needed at all
