Reading comprehension? Did you miss the part about how my internet is rationed? You think I would waste my MB on videos you posted about stuff that does not interest me whatsoever (FUCK I am a horrible US citizen!).

It is rather ethnocentric of you to think that my work here in Africa couldn't benefit the work I will be doing when I return to the States. And I am the bad U.S. citizen...? Again, a reality check is much needed for you.

As for pharmaceutical companies making profits on HIV/AIDS; spare me the conspiracy theories. This forum can only handle one pointless debate at a time.

Why are you still here? You are like a gnat that just flutters around aimlessly. You keep trying to prove a point when nobody here cares.

you are the reason why this country is in the boat it is in. it's "boring" so you ignore it. you then talk out of your ass as if you had a clue what you were talking about. if your MB were so precious to you, why are you wasting them arguing with us? do yourself a favor, better yourself. ignorance is a lack of knowledge, not a learning disability. at least you got one thing right, you are a very bad citizen.

no, i'm not ethnocentric, i'm nationalistic. the USA is a nation, not an ethnicity. how did you get so far in school? it seems nothing short of miraculous they havent booted you out. then again, the education standards have been steadily falling, so i really shouldent be surprised.

tell me, you are familiar with the drugs that are used to treat aids sufferers, yes? then you should recognize these names.

it's no conspiracy theory to say that a drug company charges a lot of fucking money for pills. i did not say they made aids. i did not say they spread aids. i said they charge a lot of money for their drugs.

as you have a hard time distinguishing the two, perhaps you can get your professor to explain to you the difference in theory and fact.

also, get used to your surroundings in africa, those nations demonstrate what happens when another nation controls your reserves, much like how china owns half of ours.

I won't even finish reading this pointless post;
Expand your mind, old man.
Your reading comprehension is non-existent.

I didn't use I was intoxicated as an excuse to my poor grammar skills. I used it in rebuttal to your statement of making a point without profanity.

Goodbye.

Nice. Sadly I was a little intoxicated.

Anyhow, I know my comma use is bad. My professor constantly reminded me, I failed to listen, but I'll survive though.[snip]
bad lie is bad. have any other ways to save face up your sleeve? ps, comprehension bit is old, get new material, floptimus prime.

I wonder why I talk about your reading comprehension, or lack thereof. Fool.

You make a statement that you got your point across without using profanity, I then rebuttal with an apology of being intoxicated. Not much of a rebuttal I know

Notice how after my excuse I moved onto the subject of my grammar.

"Anyhow I know my grammar is bad"

If my excuse of being intoxicated was for my bad grammar, I wouldn't have gone on to acknowledge my bad grammar.

I'm done with you, you are a failure.

Someday I'm sure I'll see you posting else where and we can form some more entertaining moments, but alas like all good things, this one has come to an end.

On a side note, I need some more videos. Those videos didn't teach me nothing my father hasn't already preached to me.

Oh for fucks sakes, would you shut the fuck up already?

Oh my, could it be? Research and development consume majority of spending in pharmaceutical companies? Wait but what? Newsflash? That money has to be made back some way or another? FUCK!? Who would have thought? This is one road you don't want to go down. I have worked with the pharmaceutical industry for many years and notice how I said 'with.'

And yes, economics is boring to me. Get the fuck over it and stop whining.

FYI, an American can be ethnocentric. It doesn't directly relate to ethnicity. It can refer to a nation as well you fucking retard. I think you should look up the term. And to think, the education you received 4 years before me was that much more superior? Pretty soon you will want to start comparing universities.

As far as getting used to my surroundings... I have been to Africa every summer since I was a freshman in college (8 years and counting). Believe me, I am very used to it. You should be the one who should be concerned the most if that is the issue you have with our debt with China.

Re: I LOVE YOU MISTRO

My personal take on things from my own life experiences is that a lot of what RAK was saying is true. I had a cousin that was a pharmaceutical sales rep, pretty girl. Essentially her job entailed going around marketing drugs to doctors to convince them to be used which is certainly something that needs to be done with new products (not denying that). There are a lot of ways to treat things though, and doctors today seem to be a very different breed then their predecessors when money was a real concern. She was making at least about 80-100k I think, doing it in her early 20's. It's big business with tons of money to be made. One of the ideal ones actually. I think I would have a bit more belief in the 'doing things out of the good of my heart' argument if people were willing to make the average wage and still be out there. People really tend to do whatever they think their best option is. Nothing wrong with that, I suppose.

The medicare drug changes that recently went on, for example, is something that could be discussed to demonstrate the parties and lengths that interests groups will go through to get what they want financially. Just a lot of things to discuss, that are not really all that easy to get a complete picture of.

Re: I LOVE YOU MISTRO

I was just kind of saying what seems to ring the truest from my life experiences, not much more really. I do have direct first-hand experience with the health insurance and billing side of the health care industry, and I will say with absolute conviction that there are things that go on that would make any criminal organization extraordinarily jealous. If it were not for the ability of corporations to hide behind the law, there would be a lot more direct and justified violence against a lot of people in the industry.

Many of the people working in the health care industry try to turn a blind eye to it, and pretend it does not exist, but it is a huge business, that extracts an enormous portion of the wealth that people attempt to generate in their lifetime. For many people, the systems in place ensure that each generation is starting from scratch again, keeping people in their ‘rat race’ of an existence. Many individuals out there are just trying to make a difference in an area of life that they care about, and that’s very commendable, but they are also part of something much larger that really only cares about the bottom line. Just my take on things. Maybe something to consider, maybe not.

Re: I LOVE YOU MISTRO

I was just saying take it for what it is, an opinion based on what I have experienced in life. I'm not really interested in taking the effort to present a case. I could be wrong, and sometimes am. Nobody is right all the time. How could they be. Being wrong and caring enough to reevaluate is often a way that people get to being right.

I just think that most people are unaware of the realities associated with the business side of health care, and it is certainly not something that is likely to be gained at a medical university.

Re: I LOVE YOU MISTRO

Novartis Pharmaceuticals sent their VP to Johannesburg, South Africa to visit some of the dodgiest hospitals in South Africa a couple years ago. Mostly people who are state-funded and live in the townships surrounding the city use these hospitals. The VP was so horrified by what he saw, when he returned to the States, he sent a mass email to their entire corporation describing the conditions these hospitals were in and that something must be done.

Later in that same year, Novartis donated millions of dollars worth of antibiotics and TB treatment regimens to the hospitals.

One thing that I always tell skeptics is that you cannot honestly judge these companies just because the masses do. There is a lot of things going on behind the scenes that people don't know about. That is probably where these pharmaceutical companies go wrong; they don't publicize their gratuitous efforts. And why should they? It would be like me donating a million dollars to a local charity and publicly advertising it; it takes the charity out of the deed. Amgen Pharmaceuticals, GSK and especially Pfizer, all do the same. You just don't hear about it.

Yea their products are often expensive but they have to make that profit in order to continue their R&D because once their patent on the drug expires, generic drug companies can come in and sell the same drug at a much cheaper price. If they didn't make that profit, they couldn't continue doing the work they do today. It is all relative.

Re: I LOVE YOU MISTRO

Seems like you are out there trying to do the right thing Brookly, and I commend you for it. I just think there is a lot more going on than you know at this point, and it's possible the same can be said for me. I've just seen a very different side of things than you. Sometimes companies do charity type stuff to use the public image benefits when lobbying, and since the corporate executives have a legal responsibility to do what is in the best interest of their shareholders, it is likely that their charity work is part of their overall strategy for generating wealth. There's just a lot going on that isn't always too easy to get to the bottom of.

A lot of times guys have a hard time dealing with an opinionated woman that is independant. I think there is a lot of room for giving people a little leeway there, since women have been so poorly treated by men in the past (and often continue to be in many places). It's kind of the reason why I can't really watch the show Mad Men. It's a good show, and well done, I just can't really stand seeing women being treated the way they were treated back then. I'm not really a women's libber or anything, and have actually experienced some affirmative action type stuff where I felt I lost out on jobs because of it. I really just think everyone should be given the same deal, man or woman, whatever race, etc. Plus, the Starship Troopers shower scene was to my liking as well.

A lot of things get to me, but I don't really have the time or energy to get angry about things I can't or won't make the effort of trying to change at this point. I used to be so angry all the time about things like what was discussed in this thread. A lot of really crappy things going on out there.

note that the prices of some of those drugs i posted were reasonable. why? because generics are available. why? because of patent and intellectual property laws. its a shame that i have to explain this to someone who has been attending "higher education" for eight years.

also, i as not aware north carolina had such a prestigious medical/disease specialist department.

ethnocentric: ethno - ethnicity. centric - centered. if we were a nation primarily populated by one ethnicity, then yes, it could apply to the nation. we are not, we are a "melting pot" nation. get your definitions from the dictionary, not wikipedia.

as for R&D, compare $5.6 billion to $2.7 billion spent just on free samples to market (not counting advertising) and $29 million on federal lobbying.

before you start talking about such issues, know what you are talking about before "speaking" and making an ass of yourself. it's no surprise you want me to shut up, i keep making you look like a "fucking retard" at every turn.

also, donations: 1. south africa is one of the most "developed" of african nations. why not help those in more need? charitable donations are tax write offs. novartis also spent several hundred million (almost a billion) to have corporate citizenship in south africa. look that term up if you wish, it's sort of a lost cause explaining to you that you dont know everything (especially as you see the subject matter is "boring." not enough fart jokes and pop culture references for you?)

also, lil miss moral high ground, i expect you will not be receiving any pay for your services, as you have a moral obligation to do this, yes?
