Your all wasting your lives

Theres two types of people on this shard. one is the person who has a natural liking for this game is addicted finds that they are in a suspended euphoria while their eyes are locked onto the screen. and the other are the people who have such personality problems they cant maintain a 'IRL' (my favourite term you people use) social life. So they escape into this anonymous realm of usless chatter on topics created by people with nothing but money on their minds. I'm guessing the half of you who cant seem to activly socialize have a nearly retarded amount of IQ points as the americans would say possibly hovering somewhere around 80 i believe. Those people are limited to the life they lead of pressing random buttons to control a congenement of pixels to represent their basic personality, on one shard amoung 400 other free shards of one real game that people pay for that is amoung thousands of games which is amoung the millions of things one could be doing with his/her time at any point in the day.

On the other hand theres the person who just plain enjoys playing the game the first of the two scenarios, keeping in mind both scenarios DO play other games at the same time, when their not on UO their playing other games more than they play UO. The first scenario people could be intellegent enough to recogonize what im saying and perhaps have an opinion on the point. Which means they are capable of perhaps creating other ideas performing well at other tasks and might also do so!!!

But I personally have come to this shard as it seems to be the best one where i dont have to pay a monthly fee for something i have obviously decided i shouldnt have to, and become quite annoyed by it. I am leaving never to return to the sub-councious world of UO purely because looking back on however many hours i have played i have gained nothing from this game except for a wider vocabulary in medieval terms which has proven usefull on occasions but that could be acheived by other means at the same time. So i urge any of you who log off at the end of the night, stabbed in the back by some random charactor, cheated on by a group who spend their hours of time trying to get something you spent hours of time getting, which in the end is a waste of hours of time.

To get cultured, to become less sheltered from a world existing purley of icq, aim, msn, groupchat, razor, forums. friends who are enemies, enemies who are friends, who dont have a real face. Get outside and create something, get a real face, dont give up, take drugs get laid get in a fight play loud music watch live music start an addiction or two get a personality that doesnt involve not going out because theres some pvp thing on watch movies read books start conversations exchange beliefs get to know your fellow mind, educate yourself you think its stupid in school or for some reason out of school but **** you need to know your surroundings thoroughly before you can abuse them to full its potential.

most of this will fall on deaf ears or none at all but thats ok because im free, have a nice life perhaps ill see you in mine...

Uo is about oen of the worst mental addictions you can suffer from. I would way rather be ****ed up on all kinds of drugs then be in my house playing UO 24/7 with no life.

Addiction: In the psychiatric and drug addiction fields, the word “addiction” refers ONLY to the use of “drugs”, not food, gambling, sex, anger, or any other behavior. Those are referred to as “obsessions”.

That's one definition, now let's go for number 2

Addiction - The condition of being habitually or compulsively occupied with or involved in something.

The guy is right about what he said and also those definitions. though we all know and cannot deny its hard to truly quit this game.. how shall I say "cold turkey". Even if you get jewed in game and have nothing. Sooner or later you will come back to it or have a thought of it. I've been playing for so long now that pvp is the only thing that holds me to this place. Which doesnt make sense because Uogamers doesnt have much of that but yea.. its the idea I guess. But all in all I'm agreeing with him its true, the game is an addiction. Ah, well.. we all play till we get burned out and quit and come back.. it a never ending cycle!

You just took my thought of the game and spreaded it out on a piece of bread like butter. Excellent and so true.

Re: Your all wasting your lives

now for an example of the "condition" the original thread author was maybe talking about : (previously posted )

"Along with the economic benefits and increased international profile the proliferation of online gaming and the culture that has grown around it also invokes troubling questions. There are cases of gamers becoming psychologically addicted to the internet and the games they play. One extreme case is that of Kim Kyung-jae a 24-year-old man who died in a bang after playing 86 hours non-stop. The concerns in South Korea are much the same that are heard in the U.S. in regards to Everquest players who have quit their jobs, or ignored their spouses, or worse, because they couldn’t pull themselves away from the game.

An obsessed 25-year old South Korean man named Yoon Dae Won said, “I’m an elf. I kill monsters. And when I can’t, dream about it” (Kim 1). Addiction to the internet is clearly a growing problem. Grades worsen and real social interaction can suffer. The South Korean government recognizes that there is a problem and has started the Center for Internet Addiction Prevention and Counseling (Gluck 3).

Beyond psychological problems the popularity of Lineage and games like it has created a surprising problem: the entrance of real world gangs into the virtual world, and the real world violence they cause because of events in the game. A gang burst into a Seoul bang and beat the man who had killed one of their characters in the game world (Levander 1). In MMORPGs there is the term “PK’ing” which stands for ‘player killing’. It simply means killing another player’s character, as opposed to a computer-controlled character. In some games this is illegal, in others it is simply frowned upon. Due to the common real-world violence resulting from events in Lineage and other games some South Korean authorities have borrowed the term for one of their own: “off-line PK” (Levander 1).

Crimes such as hacking others’ accounts, stealing online ids and the fraudulent sale of online weapons are so commonplace that the police have started a cybercrimes unit (Levander 4). It appears that in online gaming, crime as well as in simple socializing transcends the virtual into the real world.

online gaming is South Korea is a unique phenomenon. No other place is the world is so wired, or has such a large game-playing population base, or treats their best gamers as star athletes. The dramatic rise in gaming has brought increased economic opportunities to the country and international notoriety. The culture of game playing has had a negative effect on some South Koreans, however, as gaming addicts lose touch with the real world. The net effect of this rapid growth in gaming and internet usage will be positive or negative remains to be seen. "

Re: Your all wasting your lives

you can't classify the players on UOGamers in two catagories maybe that is just you that you are talking about (which obviously was)

anyways good for you that you got off of it

for me at least i did have a social life and still do

i personally thank UO for getting me through highschool and onto better things

i put my social life ahead of everything else and i guess i kind of quit it for awhile

UO kept me entertained during these boring times

its not always bad...

THX UO YOU GET AN A+

On that note of not seeing pvp on uogamers , i think we should stop blaming the devs and as a community build a more active positive pvp enviroment, through anti greifing (even if greifed) and try to add some respect.

Personally the only time i saw this type of community in uo is through the roleplaying guilds. Even though UO is ment to be a roleplaying game it has taken a different route. Thus maybe we can borrow some of the roleplayers fundamentals; minimize looting, creative **** talking and others... Im not saying we should all roleplay but dose any one see where im coming from?
