Shard wipe would be final nail in the coffin.
Dont care of people could save 5-10 items.
I dont think anyone except pvpers could stomach that loss. Pvpers dont care as long as they can fight

A lot of the pvpers wouldn't come back either. They would lose all their stock. Let's remember though. A lot of the people playing Hybrid, cannot only be classified as "bank sitter" or "pvper". People like me do it all. Hell, I farm everyday believe it or not. And think of people that enjoy crafting etc.
Being on this topic at all is taking time away from finding real solutions.

What if we focused on ideas that don't directly and obviously screw certain groups over? Would that result in a better server?

The good old Shard wipe suggestion is a knee jerk reaction from returning players with good intention. I did the same thing upon my return a while back. No matter how we spin it, we found that it would be detrimental to the shard's longevity.
Thanks to this thread, we have an arsenal of creative ideas to work with now. Lets keep the practical suggestions flowing!

Make an NPC that auto sails you and your gang of skallywag seamen QUICKLY to entered coordinates. Sure there is someone that knows more about rewards, mibs & colored than I do that can expand this idea.

I feel that 20-30 billion gold has been made by previous "corrupt" gm's in the past..why not delete all gold? it would be the first step in making uog a legit server and would make all the prices go down to normal and would let newer players have a fighting chance to be able to pvp with decent stock or whatever. would also get everyone out there and farm for things instead of asking their gm buddy to create whatever they need, like they have in the past.. Wiping all gold wouldn't be as detrimental to the server, people would get to keep their cool neon pixels...only reason why so much gold is on this shard is the simple fact for players to make irl money off of it..point blank period, ruins the game=/

Normaly i would agree with you, but at the moment there is no gold in circulation its all stacked in a couple accounts, items prices are going down and this will continue till this summer when gold magicly appears again
who cares, people still have hundreds of mils, delete it all and things wouldn't be stupid overpriced right now=/ regardless of how people think there isn't much gold on this server this..there is..people are STILL selling gold.
As a disclaimer: I can't really say I am completely for or against a shard wipe.
People claiming that a shard wipe would destroy the current population need to realize that there currently is very little population to begin with. Currently there are many people (mostly that would fall into the category of banksitters/pvmers/etc.) that would never give this shard a try simply because of the fact that the economy is so screwed. Even more disheartening is when you realize a LOT of this gold was acquired through some very shady practices. It's obvious to many that there has been widespread corruption in many different ways. When you see people with billions of gold why would anyone want to start fresh and farm dungeons to try and grind up gold to buy whatever outfit they want? A shard wipe and restart would IMO definitely bring in more players than would quit and not come back; especially if some effort was put into advertising and improvements. I don't see how anyone can argue that a wipe and restart would not interest more people into trying UOG. To me it's a no-brainer if I was a shard owner. The amount of donations would be through the roof with a fresh start to a well known shard.
That being said it would obviously suck for both banksitters and PVPers alike to have to farm up gold and grind out characters and equipment. Obviously the people who have donated to the server would be hurt. It also would be a blow to it's reputation as the longest operating shard and may make people question the shards longevity. I can bet my bottom dollar that a shard wipe would do more good then harm to UO Hybrid. You all say people pay real money for a game, but their are games and companies that people invest in all the time that close for good. I'm an 11 year vet of Hybrid and I'm the biggest fan for a wipe. Simple fixes:
1: Take gold, regs and 7x skillballs off the donation shop, let everything that you need to play be earned ingame
2: Go through every staff member and see who stays and who goes. Anyone that has ever did anything suspicious should be gone and replaced.
3: Look into Bola's. Either make cooldowns or take them out for good
4: Look into wands, either have a bigger cooldown or make them use mana.
5: Only safe spots should be towns and nowhere else
6: Wipe the server, yes you will loose stuff you've been having for years and cry for a little, the best part of a server is when everyone has nothing and are actually out in the world farming, makes for good pvp and pve. All of you that cry about people leaving from a wipe will be right back on if you see 500-1k players starting from scratch.

Yea I agree it sucks loosing items, but making changes wont make the people with a billion gold go out into the world farming and create pvp, someone who has every runic hammer wont be worrying about playing there blacksmith, people that are fully stocked wont be looking for supplies. Me and a buddy have been having the same house for over 11 years and yes I'd hate to loose it, but I'd much rather see Hybrid full of people PLAYING. Sucks to buy a $10 dollar meal at a fast food restaurant to and get to the last bite, but things come and go lol.
