IMHO NPCs should have a limited amount of gold. If a mage (NPC) can give you 100 mils for scrolls, why doesn't he look for a better job? Why does he work at all? Why doesn't he own the biggest house on the shard? If I have a limited amount of gold, why not the NPC vendors?

Good point. Forget being a scroller. I want them to code it so I can be an NPC vendor. They have infinite gold.:D

So, how many newbie millionaires have popped up since this scroll method has been made known to the masses? Hehe. (i see some have posted here already!)

Found it quite amusing to come across gold offers of 25-100 mil on the trade forums lately, whereas before all this you would rarely encounter those amounts being offered. Ofcourse, might be due to new items (inquis for example- only that expensive as it is new and has a long respawn timer)) which are in demand but still. I don't think it was too long ago that some were saying that there was a shortage of gold on Demise and that it is being hoarded by a few.

Not that I have a problem with people using this method anyway. There's more to UO then just cranking out as much gold as possible 24/7. Looks too much like a full time job to me instead of a game you play to just chill and relax after a busy day.

(by the way, before I'm accused of anything - all my gold is from gaunt, idocs and trades. I have one scribe, who is actually a fisher, and hasn't even scribed a single scroll or book in its life hehe)

edit: crap, just read third's post. I'm a beggar compared to him.

:<This bug make someone be 300kk+,and bought tons of 20,25ss,arties,brsks.
btw lucky its will be stop now...

Re: A Change in the rules.

If you mean "bug" by the Vamp. Embrace method it isn't a bug. It wasn't removed when it was discovered by the publisher when I played... they just made the vendor change so we banked the scrolls and waited for the appropriate time to sell them.

This reminds me of the economy when the stair bug is being exploited - massive golds being produced and orny getting sold at 60+ million.

No wonder why suddenly people are buying brsks, 25 ss and ltots like "buying all you have".

I wouldnt mind seeing some gold removed either, but I would be totally against two things:

1. a flat wipe. Some of the new players worked their asses off to get what they do have in gold, some players just keep enough gold to keep them going, etc. , and it would suck to do that, IMO

and

2. any type of wipe that brings everyone to an even playing field. UO was not meant to be a communal hippy land where everyone has the same and is capable of the same...

I was thinking a sliding scale removal would be nice. Leave the first 20 or 50 million alone, what you have above that takes a 50% hit, then whatever people have above say another 100 million take a 75% hit, or something along those lines. And anything in 10 digits just NUKED... how would someone have billions!?

It wouldn't be easy tho, and in the end all talk of wipes is just that: "talk". I expect that it probably wont happen, and even if it did, it would be up to psz to decide how/how much.

Re: A Change in the rules.

Hopefully someone in the know can answer this question for me, please.

I hate making and filling spellbooks, now that making scrolls afk is illegal. I will need to sit and watch my screen while my scriber creates the 64 scrolls and places them in the spellbook one by one? Correct?

Seems like the simpler fix would be to make selling the scrolls less profitable. I believe the price on reveal went from 32 to 61 in a patch a couple months ago. Why not just hard code the scroll prices to be a certain price (making it not worth the time of gathering all the supplies, but not making more rules for people making scrolls to fill spellbooks or just raising the inscription skill)?

No one said this is permanent, of course no one has said its not either. We WILL have a proper fix in, in the near future and if admins think its suitable this can always be reversed.

I was just talking to another staff about filling spellbooks, and we realize its going to suck, but for the time being, read some of the numbers posted in this thread if you need to know why.

can the admin also implement the reverse of that policy (if and when that happens), whereby peeps like moi, with about 3-4 million max at any time ever  will be 'leveled' with the rest?

i wouldn't complain to 16 million being dumped on me, no siree indeed! :D

No I didn't "make some cash out of it". I wish that no one made cash out of it. I churned my measley few million out of nothing like most others :)

And don't worry bro, i'll never get tired of stalking you, even if that's all I log in to do!

Re: A Change in the rules.

Thanks for the response, Seer Xavier. Hopefully you will let us know when it is safe to return to making scrolls to fill spellbooks like you did too stop doing inscription afk (if ever).

I totally agree something needs to be done to get the economy under control, I remember playing OSI and the economy went to crap.

The tax sounds good on money over a certain amount that a player has.

A casino which has also been mentioned.

Also, something that might get some money out of the economy would be to sell runic kits or smithing hammers or full reset bod books on a vendor for a time at a higher going rate then people are selling them for on the forums. Just idea's.

Re: A Change in the rules.

Was gold ever deleted when the house bug was here, aside from the player that did it being banned, if not, then it shouldn't be done in this situation.

concerned about your billions?

this would be very fair since theres probably no one who has more than 200kk and didnt use scribe or any other exploit for that.

Re: A Change in the rules.

Eh, don't forget the issue here are the players actually using this so called scroll method and creating the problem. Don't see how that should extend to anyone else who has nothing to do with it.
